Day 2 - Stream

It seems things aren't quite going my way this time - nature didn't provide this day either. I left work early today - in order to go and shoot a stream while there was still daylight - but when I got there, it was all dried out! Massive facepalm! So, sadly I didn't get the shot I wanted, and had to fall back on my backup plan. So, instead of cascading water, you get to see this birdie instead. It's not nearly as dramatic but it's way cuter ;)

Hopefully things will go my way tomorrow instead. Let's hope that the third time is the charm.

  1. love the image of the duck with the fall leaves. Beautiful diagonal composition again. 2 small critiques, not sure that the rock isn't just a distraction and I think I would have tried a polarizer to get some more color out of the leaves. Although the high key water separates the duck nicely it verges on being a blown out highlight.

    1. Yes I know, and I totally agree. I had a limited window of time before the sun went down and I had to get back to work (at home). My fall back plan was not at all what I had intended - this stream is situated in a dark part of a forest and I therefore I got lot of none too sharp shots :(. This was the best shot of the bunch, so alas... I'll strive to do better tomorrow. Then, at least nature can't let me down ;)

  2. Nicely exposed duck, the leaves don't seem to be bothering him as he swims through them,

  3. You should have brought the spraycan :D . Don't worry you managed to make the best of it and it's a lovely picture.

    1. Haha! I should have, shouldn't I. I could have presented a picture of a glistening duck, aw man! :P

  4. I have tried to decide whether I like the strange angle that makes the duck and water look tilted, and I think i do. It's anchored well by the rock, although I do think that might have been better either all in or half out of the frame, rather than just touching the edge. I agree that a polariser or more contrast in the water would have made the leaves fabulous!

  5. It's stream-y enough for me!
I really like the colours of the leaves under the water but, like mentioned earlier, I wish they were a little more visible through the water.

  6. Great for a quick back up shot and definitely fits the word of the day.
I agree with the other comments, it's a good shot but could have been better if you'd had more time.

  7. Natalie, so sorry, I'm so late to comment. Looks like you still got lucky as you weren't able to take a picture of the stream as you wished. I would have had a terrible time, our weather has been all over the place but especially rainy! Well done!

    1. My dear Maggie, no need to apologize! It is so nice of you to comment, especially since you're (unfortunately!) not participating in the challenge yourself this time (we miss you :) )! Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! You're simply the best!
