Day 3 - Wood

This is a subject I just love and have used several times in the past. I never shoot the whole thing though, just bits and pieces of it. This is our grandfather's clock - a lovely piece of furniture with many little details, it's simply marvelous to shoot.

As I hinted at in a comment yesterday, it's really getting dark up here in Sweden now. Sun rises at 7:30 and sets at 4 pm. Ugh! I just hate the darkness of the winter. Anyway, this means that you'll have to plan ahead when it comes to daylight, and therefore I shot this just before I had to run off to get to work, haha.

I hope you like it.

  2. Beautiful carving and well captured.
I know what you mean with the daylight, we have a bit more light around here, sunrise 7.30 - sunset 17.00 surrounded by dawn & dusk of course.

  3. A great part of the woord to shoot. I think the highlights are perhaps a bit too bright, and suspect they may be flash (though I don't want to speculate incorrectly) but I find them a bit blue too. Warmer tones would have matched the great pattern in the wood well.

    1. No flash used, just the light of dawn, which is, as you observed, bluish. I didn't really think that much about it - I was happy to have gotten natural light at all haha - thanks for the tip.

  4. I'm enjoying the daylight coming into summer down here! ;)
Lovely detail in the wood, I can imagine I would be using that clock for numerous shoots too!

  5. I like the detail in the wood. I am tempted to wish you hadn't cut the leaf off on the left, but then it wouldn't have the square crop that I like.
I was just thinking the same thing about the light. I'm having similar problems, although you're definitely more north than me so I should quit complaining :)

    1. Yes, that leaf really bugged me too. It was either chop it off, or add more of the pattern to the left which upset the balance in the shot, so, chopped leaf it was.

  6. Nice solid frame filling shot of a beautiful piece. Short winter days aren't great for photography, luckily not my problem this time :-)
