Day 7 - Measure

It's not easy shooting stuff like this all alone! There are lots of things to coordinate at once - the rate of sugar poring down, the position of the scoop, the camera angle and the focus.

I had a little whoopsie today as I pored the sugar with my left hand while trying to compose with my right. I have to admit, the mess it made had me a bit annoyed at the time, but, as soon as I saw the result, I realized it was the best shot of the session! Isn't it wonderful how things turn out sometimes? I just love how playful it looks - as if a child was poring, helping its mother with the baking. Let it be our little secret that it was really just a clumsy 20+ Mrs, with an itchy trigger finger ;)

  1. It's very good Natalie, I know how you fell doing lone shots. You have to do it yourself because nobody does it like you want it to turn out.

  2. That should say 'feel' not fell, my hand works faster than my brain.

    1. Thank you Leo, you are so right! I've given up on having Mr helping me for that very reason haha.

And you're welcome to join my club, I am the queen of typos ;)

    1. If I had a nickle for every time I cleaned up his mess in the kitchen... ;)

  4. I love how you can see the sugar grains so clearly even though they are moving. They look great against the red. A happy oops!

  5. Many times the accidental shot wins out. And I also know the feeling of shooting solo. I do get my Mr to help when I can (and when he's not engrossed in something of his own), but sometimes it is better to get the job done yourself :)

  6. Nice action shot. I love how the movement is so obvious with the white against that lovely bright red. Very cool how the stream splits on the edge of the bowl. The whoops was worth it!

  7. Reading your description made me smile, as I've had this experience several times. We really could use an extra pair of arms.
As for the image, it is quite striking. I especially like the little bits flying off at the sides! Good stuff!

  8. Great actionshot by accident. The splitting stream has good detail and I love the reds of the bowl.
By the way how about a tripod and a timer ...

    1. I do have both, but I thought that doing it all by hand in the moment would give me more control. It turned out, in some ways, yes, but on the other hand, not so much haha ;)

  9. LOL, you are a funny lady. I know the feeling, just being a hand or two short... but if we did have extra ones, I am sure they would get in the way when we weren't shooting. The detail and composition were worth the mess.
