Day 8 - Change

Behold! The gloomy overcast autumn light is here, washing out colors and making shooting difficult. In days like this it's nice that nature itself livens things up a bit by changing into its fall costume.

I shot a lot of picture as I was walking to work today. It was raining pretty hard, and I tried to balance my umbrella in using my arms as I was shooting, it wasn't easy. The light was terrible too, and most of my shots ended up blurry as a result of longer shutter speeds. I hate shooting in the rain.

Luckily the weather was better after work and I found this little nugget on my way to visit a friend. It's perhaps not what I would had chosen if my other shots had worked out, but at least it reflects today's "autumny" mood.

  1. You captured the feel of autumn very well. I'm not excited about it as we have had such a crap summer but I do like your image. I feel for you about the light; soon there will not be a lot at all. :-(

    1. Normally, I'm not exited about autumn either, but I'm trying to learn to savor the last days of color and light before "the lid is put down over Sweden" - as we say here. This challenge has actually turned out to be kind of therapeutic that way ;)

  2. It was overcast and warm today here, the result of influence of a hurricane off the coast of Mexico. 85 degrees F, and humidity is not what we are used to. I'd love some rain! I'd love some Fall, too. It's always nice to see changing leaf colors. Yours conveys the weather you described very well.

    1. Tank you. I'd love some heat right bout now. I like it better than the cold, since past "injuries" (I jokingly call them my war wounds) has made my body into a barometer - I can always predict bad weather through pains and tingling feelings, especially during the cold part of the year.

  3. I actually love the diffuse light. Time to get setup with an off camera flash and some colored gels. :)

    1. And you're really good at shooting in that kind of light too :)

  4. I like how there's only one very autumn-y leaf, it gives the impression that it's only just starting. Would be nice later on in the month to perhaps shoot the same tree, so we can see the difference!

    1. Thank you. Yes, that's actually how it is right now. The most trees are still green. That's a great idea! I'll definitely do that :)

  5. We had some gloomy overcast days as well, pure white skies making everything look 2D and dull. All you need is a few clouds, even rainclouds will do, or a touch of sun to add a little dimension. My solution was shooting indoors. Your daily proofs that perhaps if I had tried harder I might have found something good outside as well.

    1. Thank you :). When you can't make it, fake it. This photo went through some serious Photoshoping :)
