Day 18 - "New Things"

Last night I finally did it. I watched Stargate! That's right my dear readers, the "Trekkie" has been adventurous haha. I figured I need something new to watch, having watched Star Trek many, many more times than I care to admit.

Thus it happened that I popped the original film from 1994 in the dvd-player (why not start at the beginning?) and enjoyed the show with Mr and a table packed full of goodies (I love our hang-in movie nights!). Sure, it's not the best movie I've seen, but it was far from the worst! I think I'm going to give the series a chance. Now, I know some of you are "Gaties" (is that the right word?), and I know there are several series, so if you could point me to the best one to start with I'd be grateful ;).

  1. This will be added to the other favorite of mine that you did with the raindrops. This is simply gorgeous! Well done. Eury

  2. A beautiful curve and great colours, especially that rich blue at the bottom left. Nicely seen.

Now, as to the SciFi situation, I can't believe that as ANY KIND of SciFi fan you have never seen anything of Stargate! It is by far and away the best SciFi show there ever was. I watched some Star Trek, but it never really sucked me in like Stargate did. Start from the beginning and work through all of them. They do kind of follow a sequence, even if earlier series were very canned episodes that could have been viewed in any order. As characters developed though, they did start weaving a longer running story through it, as became fashionable in those shows, and it all grew very absorbing! Awesome shows. My husband and I watched all series through from start to end, and then when the kids were old enough we watched them again with them, and we are all big fans. Then we moved onto Stargate Atlantis too, and those were not as good, but still fabulous anyway. Stargate Universe kind of lost us a bit, because we found them a bit slow-moving and a bit of a departure from what first appealed in the Stargate series.

And then we also got to watch Farscape, which I think only had four series before it was canned, and then they made a two-part movie finish, just to appease the fans. It was fabulous and I can't believe they canned it, but that really appealed to us.

Firefly was another good one that was canned before it met its heyday, due to poor early screening programming and airing the episodes in the wrong order to confuse the viewers and drop the ratings.

But seriously, give Stargate a chance, cos it lasted 10 seasons, and spawned two others that were pretty successful, so clearly it is not to scoffed at!

    1. I promise you, I'll begin to watch it as soon as I get hold of it :) (which should be in the next few days). After what you wrote I just have to see it. I know I'ts kinda strange not to have seen it but I've just never gotten around to it. Star Trek has a lot of episodes too. We're talking 6 series with 30 seasons, which brings it to a total of 725 episodes + the 12 movies. And then there are all the other series I love, like Allo Allo, Scrubs, The Office (both UK and US), 2½ men, Friends, Seinfeld and so forth. When I've watched one of them I've always had the cravings for another. But now seems a good time for something new :). I look forward so seeing SG 1. I love stories with depth that absorbs you in the way you described. Star Trek Deep Space Nine is like that too, and I think, from what you've told me, that you might like it :). It's the best of the bulk in my opinion; it has a linear story with complicated characters and relationships. Not to mention the cultural aspects, and the politics. No matter how many times I watch it I can always find something new in it and my opinion has changed about a lot of things in it as I watched it over and over :).

  4. Clean and simple makes for big impact.

That blue reminds me of our former bathroom, tiles, my favorite shade of blue but a bit to much when covering both walls, sinks and floor. Yet it took almost 25 years after we bought this house before we had a plan, concept, money and the right components (esp. their sizes) come together at the same time to finally start renovating. Almost done now so time for the huge cleaning job, stonedust ALL over the house despite precautions.

    1. Thank you. I agree, it's very pretty color :)

I can totally relate to that! It was like that here the whole last summer. We had plumbers, electricians and carpenters over renovating the bathroom while we simultaneously redid the kitchen, it was a mess! The living room was filled with half assembled kitchen cabinets and boxes, a tub was in the hall and there was all kinds of dust everywhere! I dread the that we finally decide to take on the living room - we're gonna knock out a wall.

Good luck renovating :). I'm sure it will be gorgeous when it's done.
